Artemisia, Art and Gardens
Artemisia, Art and Gardens was created in Verbania as a project designed to bring together nature, culture, landscape and community, transforming the city and its spaces into places of encounter, discovery and participation.
In the heart of Villa Giulia, overlooking Lake Maggiore, Artemisia is a widespread event combining a market exhibition, cultural talks, workshops, sensory experiences, activities dedicated to children, visits across the local area and opportunities for further exploration and learning.
Rooted in the world of botany and landscape, the project also opens up a dialogue with art, education, literature and, conviviality. Artemisia aims to offer an experience for a wide range of audiences: plant and flower enthusiasts, those seeking cultural experiences, families, curious minds, visitors and anyone wishing to discover Verbania from a new perspective.
The event was conceived with the aim of bringing beauty and knowledge into dialogue, combining the quality of the experience with the value and identity of the local area.
As part of Artemisia, a dedicated project is planned to enhance and expand Verbania’s public green spaces through the planting of new trees of particular botanical and ornamental interest.
The initiative aims to progressively extend the botanical heritage and culture of the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens throughout the city, gradually creating a widespread presence of carefully selected plants in Verbania’s urban spaces.
Each edition of Artemisia will therefore have the opportunity to leave a tangible and lasting legacy, enriching the city’s green heritage with new species and cultivars selected for their botanical, ornamental and landscape value.
The plants will be planted in an open area of Parco Besozzi Benioli, in the historic district of Intra, between the Church of Santa Marta and Piazza Ranzoni. Donated to the city in 1935 by notary Giuseppe Besozzi Benioli, the park is today an important green oasis and is currently undergoing a redevelopment project, into which this initiative will integrate harmoniously.
Each plant will be identified by a dedicated label featuring an informative QR code, allowing residents and visitors to discover its main characteristics.
