The Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto are on the western lakeshore of Lake Maggiore in Pallanza (province VCO, region PIEMONT). Distances to the most important cities nearby: Milan 96 km, Turin 172 km, Genoa 200 km, Locarno (CH) 40 km.
By car: from the northern center of Italy we recommend to take the highway A26 VOLTRI–GRAVELLONA TOCE with the exit BAVENO/STRESA, then following the STRADA STATALE N. 33 SEMPIONE in direction of VERBANIA for about 11 km. From the north of the Alps you can use 3 passes: the Simplon, St. Gotthard or S. Bernardino. The gardens are always in a distance of more or less 100km. If you arrive from the Simplon pass you drive on the A26/E62 AUTOSTRADA DEI TRAFORI and you have to take the exit called VERBANIA. For the last two: you drive along the western lakeside on the STRADA STATALE N. 33 SEMPIONE. After about 28km from the Swiss-Italian border and after having passed the village of Intra, you will arrive to Pallanza. Here you only have to follow the street signs for Villa Taranto.
By train: line Milan – Domodossola. The railway station of Verbania is in a 9 km distance and is situated in the district of Fondotoce; a bus service brings you to Pallanza.
By boat: the shipping company “Navigazione Lago Maggiore” has a landing stage called “Villa Taranto” right in front of the Gardens entrance.
By plane: Malpensa Airport. The Alibus service offers bus connections.
